“But unto the son he saith, thy throne O God is for ever and ever: a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom. Thou has loved righteousness and hated iniquity, therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the Oil of gladness above thy fellows”. Hebrews 1:8-9.
A foundation is an underlying structure on which the visible building stands. When you take away the foundation, the building collapses, The Bible says in Psalm 11:3 that “if the foundation is destroyed, that there is nothing the righteous can do? Foundation is critical, there is need for a solid foundation before progress can be made.
The scripture in Hebrews 1:8 talks about a scepter of righteousness as a scepter of the kingdom. A scepter is a rod held in the hand as a symbol of power or authority. This means that the authority or power of the kingdom of God is established upon righteousness. This righteousness is not the one based on religion, self-improvement or even self-discipline. In Matthew 5:20, the Bible talked about the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, a righteousness based on rules, regulations and the traditions of men. This type of righteousness does not deliver rather it puts men in bondage.
Genuine righteousness can only be found in Christ. In 2 Corinthians 5:21 the Bible says, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” This righteousness is established by genuine conversion, knowledge and understanding of what Jesus did on the cross of calvary and activate the mind of Christ powered by the kingdom spirit.
Once this is established, a child of God is well positioned to build character and be able to love righteousness and hate iniquity. It is only then that he can stand out among his fellows. A new generation of believers must arise in Nigeria with a concise understanding of what God expects from the lives of His children. It is only then that the change we desire as a people can come.
God is looking for men and women to use. Anyone that is named by the name of the Lord must depart from iniquity and choose righteousness. 2 Timothy 2:19, “Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity”
We need to understand what God is saying today. Righteousness exalts a nation while Sin is a reproach. We have to make up our minds to follow God. God wants to bless us so we can be a blessing to others.
Our Lord Jesus Christ loved righteousness and hated iniquity so God anointed him with the Oil of gladness above His fellows. In the same way any one of us who would love righteousness and hate iniquity will be anointed by God and set apart in a world where darkness reigns to be a shining light to others.
As you choose to stand and remain in righteousness today, the Lord himself will anoint you with his oil of gladness, you will enjoy the benefits of the Lord and flourish in the land of the living!
