Malachi 2:13-15, “And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth”
Marriage is premised on a mystery that makes one equal to one and this is totally contrary to what science in all its achievements can fathom. This is why the carnal mind finds it preposterous and difficult to understand. Science may try to persuade man that half plus half is equal to one but the truth is that two broken people can never be equal to one in the perspective of God. It is therefore a waste of time for any couple to seek completeness in one another as it negates one of the basic principles of marriage. Completeness can only be found in Christ. The Bible says in Psalm 11:3 that if the foundations are destroyed that there is nothing the righteous can do. A lot of crises in families today is simply because the basic foundation of marriage has been removed.
Colossians 2:9-10, “For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power”
A man or woman that is not complete in HIM cannot be useful in marriage and may never fulfill the purpose of God for marriage. Traditional teachings on marriage managed to persuade many that companionship, enjoyment, completeness, fruitfulness and protection are the reasons God instituted marriage. However, the Bible makes it clear in Malachi 2:15 that the principal purpose of the marriage institution is to produce Godly seeds. Put differently, marriage is essentially designed for the expansion of the kingdom of God. A couple that is independently complete in Christ would create a stable and conducive environment that would nurture and produce Godly off springs that would in turn do the same for their own seeds. This gives room for establishment of righteousness and expansion of the kingdom of God.
In Genesis 18:19, God boasted of Abraham when He said, “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgement; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him”
God never changes, what he expected from Abraham is what He still expects from us today. He is looking for families that would raise Godly seeds from generation to generation. This is the only way that the ultimate plan of God for His kingdom to come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven can be fulfilled (Matthew 6:9)
The way forward is for intending couples to first seek completeness in Him and then ask for understanding and revelation of the ultimate purpose of marriage before entering the covenant. At the same time, those that have missed it already should go back to God for mercy and seek completeness in Him, then peace, healing and fulfillment will come. If people continue to believe a lie that the purpose of marriage is for selfish reasons; companionship, enjoyment, completeness, etc., fulfillment will remain afar off and the purpose of God for marriage will never be achieved.
