“And now Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways to and to Love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, to keep the commandments of the Lord, and his statutes which I command thee this day for thy good?”. (Deut 10:12) (KJV).
It is for our own good that the Lord demands submission and obedience from us. One day of pleasing God can settle the destiny of a generation. The truth is that no one can please God by chance or accident. We can only please Him by understanding His ways and expectations and then apply ourselves accordingly. Advancing the kingdom of God must be a conscious and deliberate effort. On daily basis, we must go out of our way to advance the kingdom through upholding righteousness, winning soul, discipleship, providing the right counsel to someone in distress, speak out against evil, among others. God is more eager to bless us than we eager to receive. Many people expect to be blessed simply because they come to church, meanwhile, God is looking out for those that have a desire to do His will, especially on daily basis. Many people spend 24 hours every day without doing a single thing that promotes the kingdom of God, yet they expect favour, promotion and victory in different areas.
Matthew 6:33 demands that we seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, then shall all other be added unto us according to the scriptures. What do we do: we find time to seek and run after all the things God promised to add to us and then seek the kingdom last. This is why many have stagnated, frustrated and turned to religion for succor.
God must become a priority in our daily lives. As we set out every day, we must praise, pray and ask God to lead us. We must make up our minds as to what and in which area we can move the kingdom of God forward. We must have a desire to be a blessing to someone. We must be determined to speak life in every situation. We must be bold to declare the things that be not as though they were. We must leave our homes determined to be true ambassadors of the kingdom. These are the things we should pray about in the morning and ask God to help us achieve them.
God spoke to the Israelites (Deut 10:12-13) to keep the commandments of the Lord for their own good, so when we fear, obey and keep the Lord’s commandments we are not doing God a favour, rather we are doing ourselves some good. God has given us all things that pertain to life and Godliness (2 Pet 1:3). Everything we need both for today and eternity has been provided. All He is asking for is submission and obedience to His word.
Let us go into this week with a new mind set. Let us go with a commitment to seek His kingdom first; with all diligence and sense of purpose.
