“As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou has sent”. (John 17:2-3) (kjv).
In Acts 4:12 scripture says there is only one name in heaven through which anyone can be saved and that name is Jesus Christ. The only link we have between God and man for salvation, deliverance and a life of victory is Jesus Christ. Through the name of Jesus Christ we receive eternal life and without this life there is no basis for life in the kingdom.
Eternal life is a gift and in 1John 5:11-12, scripture says whoever has the Son has eternal life. This life is not focussed on what happens after death or when we meet God in heaven rather it’s a life that starts from the very moment we give our lives to Christ.
John 3:36 makes us to understand that eternal life is a present tense possession, it is not something that will happen instead it materializes the moment we come to Christ. (See also John 4:14, John 5:24, John 6:27, 40, and 47). These Bible verses affirms that eternal life is present tense possession.
Eternal life is a quality and quantity of life. As Children of God, when we receive eternal life we are able to resist Sins because we receive empowerment from above. Our lives also begin to change for the better. This eternal life is the same life in Christ Jesus. John 3:16 tells us that the single most important reason why Jesus was sent by the Father was deliver eternal life to those that believe in him.
Jesus did not just come to forgive our sins to make way for us to go to heaven and escape hell. Sin had to be removed because it was a hindrance to eternal life but it is crucial to know that removal of sin was to make way for us to receive eternal. Isaiah 59:2 tells us that our iniquities have separated us from God and our sins have hid His face from us. It was therefore critical that these sins be removed so that eternal life can kick in.
In order to access eternal life, our Sins must be taken away first. It is a tragedy that many believers stop at their sins being forgiven with little or no effort to receive the gift of eternal life. This explains why many are stuck and in bondage with stunted spiritual growth.
